Fury’s Determination to Set the Record Straight Against Usyk
Tyson Fury’s dream of becoming the undisputed heavyweight champion came to a disappointing halt in May when he suffered a split decision loss to Oleksandr Usyk in Saudi Arabia.
The fight was fiercely contested, but round nine stood out as the pivotal moment. Usyk had Fury on the ropes, almost securing a stoppage, only to be halted by a standing eight count from the referee.
The judges’ scorecards reflected the close nature of the bout, with one scoring it 115-112 in favor of Usyk, while another saw Fury ahead at 114-113. The final judge also scored it 114-113 for Usyk, allowing the Ukrainian to claim the IBF, WBA, WBO, and WBC titles.
In a recent interview with the Undisputed YouTube Channel, Fury expressed his strong disagreement with the judges’ verdict, revealing that he only credited Usyk with three rounds—most notably giving him round nine a 10-8 score.
“I thought I won the fight. After a lifetime in boxing, I gave Usyk rounds 8, 9, and 10, with round 9 being a 10-8 in his favor. The judges saw it differently; one even had me winning. It was a razor-close fight. I didn’t get the decision that night, but I’m determined to make it right next time.”
With the rematch on the horizon, Fury is clear about his strategy. “It’s no secret—I’m going in there to knock him out. I doubt I’ll get a decision, no matter what I do. I have to take this out of the judges’ hands, just like I did in America. To secure victory, I must finish him.”
The highly anticipated rematch between Fury and Usyk is set for December 21 in Saudi Arabia, but ‘The Gypsy King’ hinted that he already has plans for his next opponent after this showdown.
